What is Greek Seasoning?
This Greek spice mix is so versatile, it can be used on practically anything! Sprinkle on popcorn, baked potatoes, add to soup or mix it in with your favorite salad dressing for some extra flavor! Use it to spice up chicken souvlaki or to add to your favorite Greek dressing!

Greek Seasoning Ingredients
Mediterranean flavors are bright and savory, with just a touch of citrus.
SPICES Oregano, basil, rosemary, garlic & onion powder, dill, thyme, and a little salt and pepper are all combined to create this wonderful spice blend!
LEMON ZEST Fresh zest is used in this recipe but can be easily substituted for dry lemon zest!

TIP Be sure to mix the spices and set on a paper towel or tray to dry. Ensure the lemon peel is completely dry before sealing.
How to Make Greek Seasoning
Greek seasoning is a quick and easy spice mix ready in no time flat!
- Zest a lemon and add to a small bowl.
- Add spices to bowl, mix well.
Use immediately on meat or veggies or store for later!
Tips for Storing
- Store Greek seasoning in a small shaker bottle or mason jar in a cool, dark place.
- If using freshly zested lemon, place the spice mix on a plate and let it cure about 48 hours so the lemon zest has a chance to dry out.
- Be sure to write the name and date on the outside of the bottle or jar, it will keep on the shelf for up to 3 months.

Greek Seasoning
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary crushed
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon dried dill
- ¼ teaspoon dried thyme leaves
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest optional, see note
Instructions

If using lemon, zest lemon and add along with other spices to a small bowl.

Mix well to combine. Use immediately to season meat and vegetables.

If storing, place spice mixture on a plate and allow it to sit open at room temperature for 48 hours or until lemon zest is completely dried. Place in a small jar and store at room temperature for up to 3 months.

Thanks! I am wondering if you have any ideas on drying other ingredients to create a more custom mix. I ask because we used a spice pack from a meal kit box that was delicious but I have no idea how I would replicate it. It contained some “regular” spices but also black olive and red bell pepper. I wondered if I dehydrate and then zest would work but never tried anything like that before. Do you have any suggestions?
That mix sounds delicious! I haven’t tried other dried ingredients in this mix if you have a food dehydrator (or dry in the oven at 120 to 160°F) it may work. As for lemon zest, I zest and place on paper towel. Let it dehydrate at room temperature for a couple of days.
How is there no Mint in the mixture? That why you call it American Greek?
Hi Ginny, you can definitely add mint if you prefer. This is our version of Greek seasoning that you can purchase at a grocery store.
