This cherry cobbler recipe is made with fresh or frozen cherries!
Lightly sweetened cherries are baked under a buttery cake-like crust that puffs up fluffy and golden brown in the oven.
This is a Family Favorite Dessert Because…
- The combination of tart and sweet cherries is the ultimate summer dessert.
- Cherry cobbler is easy to make and uses very few ingredients.
- The juices from the cherries become sauce—perfect to serve with ice cream!
- This easy cherry cobbler recipe need only one bowl and one baking dish.
Ingredients for Cherry Cobbler
Cherries: Use either fresh or frozen cherries in this recipe. Canned cherries work too, be sure to drain them. I use this style of cherry pitter since you can do several cherries at once (you can also remove pits without a cherry pitter).
Cobbler Topping: This cherry cobbler is cake-like and easy to make with simple ingredients you likely have on hand. Flour, sugar, milk, and butter. You can add a little bit of vanilla extract or almond extract if you’d like.
How to Make Cherry Cobbler
- Toss cherries with sugar and set aside.
- Make the batter topping (recipe below).
- Melt butter in the baking pan and pour the batter mixture over the melted butter. Top with cherries.
- Bake until the cobbler is set.
Serve with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Storing Leftovers
- Cobblers taste just as good the next day! Keep cherry cobbler covered in the refrigerator in an airtight container for about 4 days. Enjoy it cold or heat portions in the microwave.
- Cobbler can be frozen as a whole or in individual containers once it’s fully cooled.
- Wrap portions in foil and then plastic wrap and freeze for up to 1 month.
More Cobbler Favorites
Cobbler is delicous with all kinds of fruit like peaches, blueberries, or blackberries.

If using frozen cherries do I thaw them first
You can thaw them and drain off some of the excess liquid but they can also be cooked from frozen.
Easy to make very yummy!! I added a 1/4t. Almond and it was heavenly. The small scoop of vanilla ice cream helped too! Grandkids loved it also.
Not only the receipes but also your PHOTOS are fabulous! As they say, “one picture is worth a thousand words”. If it LOOKS GOOD, you can bet it is!
sounds delicious and a favorite !!
So glad you think so, Annie!
I used some tart cherries that I was given that had thawed out by the time I got home and this recipe came out amazing! I’m going to have to try it with blueberries next
That sounds delicious. We would love to hear how it turns out for you with blueberries.
can I use 2 percent milk?
Yes, 2% milk is perfect!
I’ve been looking for a really good, quick fruit cobbler using frozen fruit and this is it! I absolutely LOVE “spendwithpennies.com” — keeps re-booting my stale repertoire of meal ideas and is greatly appreciated! (I did add almond extract because I adore almond and cherry anything.)
So glad you loved this recipe Vicki, thank you so much for following along! :)
can you make this with no bake gram cracker crust and do you have any recipes with almond paste?? thank you Julie
We have never tried using a graham cracker crust with this recipe, Julie. Cobbler usually consists of a batter/biscuit/dough filling. If you’re looking for a cherry dessert with a graham cracker crust, try our Cherry Cheesecake recipe!
Trying this today though no cherries probably peaches. Freezing directions redundant in this household. Few leftovers after breakfast next day.
Sounds yummy, let us know how it goes!
